Land of the Free and Fireworks

I had the amazing opportunity to attend the Padres baseball game in San Diego the night they played the San Francisco Giants and Barry Bonds tied the Home Run World Record.
There had been so much controversy around Bonds and his use of steroids that there were police stationed all over the park.
The Andersons have front row box seats right above LF where Bonds plays. A very handsome policeman was protecting all of us from rioting. I felt very safe.
How sad, that in this land of the free we need police at a baseball game. I am not certain what they were anticipating. Perhaps it was the concept that if someone caught the tying ball it would be worth $1,000,000 and there would be riots of greed and avarice. Or perhaps those so loyal to Hank Aaron would jump on the field and beat up Barry? Or perhaps in this land of the free where boos are allowed, they really aren't socially acceptable.
Anyway, it was fab. It was fun. It was fortunate and when he hit the tying homer a lucky plumber sitting above us caught it.
Next year I hope to be in San Diego when the Cubs play. That will be even more fun.
